With friends in town we’ve been going out to eat a lot lately… Visiting these restaurants has really affirmed something we’ve thought since we got here… Argentines know food and how to cook!
The ingredients, the execution, and presentation are of very high-quality in most of the better restaurants. The steak goes with out saying, but we’ve been impressed with so many other dishes as well…
We’re going to go way out on a limb, and venture that, unless you’re a multi-millionaire who can afford the outrageous prices of nicer establishments in New York or Paris, Buenos Aires offers some of the best options for great cuisine anywhere in the world.
The salmon, in the salmon sushi is amazing… We’ve heard it comes from Barlioche, near the border with Chile, and from Chile itself…
And the vino, oh the vino… so many great whites and reds, you can hardly ever go wrong…
We’re going to put together a list for you, dear reader, of restaurants we’ve enjoyed, and recommendations from some trusted sources…

Hi Will,
I just came back from lunch in Manhattan (NYC) and we had two cheeseburgers and fries, one small bottle of Perrier and one iced tea. The tab? US $45.00….
Was it a nice restaurant? Yes, but not exceptionally so and it wasn’t a particularly expensive restaurant although we could have gone a little less expensive if we weren’t so tired.
I long for wonderful meals with wine that doesn’t put health insurance premiums in jeopardy.
Keep those pictures coming. The dessert looked so yummy..

Hi Will,
Update to yesterday’s post. Check out the May 31 issue of Wine Spectator. They have an article on Buenos Aires and a listing of restaurants.
I’m not sure if they post it online right away, but I believe they do at some point.
Enjoy!

Thanks Fer. Someone just told me about that website last night…
They also said, and I don’t know if this is true, that the website is the most visited Argentine website on the internet! If that doesn’t tell you how serious Argentines are about food, I don’t know what does!
Regards,
Will

Hey Will and Chillisoup,
I guess it was me that said that about Guia Oleo. I didn’t mean that it was the most visited Argentine website on the internet, I’m sure there are many that are more visited that are based here… however, it is the most visited website about something particular to Argentina… in this case, restaurants in Buenos Aires.
And, this is where I got the info from:
http://www.alexa.com/browse?&CategoryID=26015
You’ll see Oleo at number 1 in the Argentina category over on the right hand side of the page.
Now, the interesting thing (entirely for me!), is that if you click on the “See top sites in all Argentina categories” link, and then click onto page 2, you’ll see my website is currently coming in at number 11 in the Argentina category - hot on the heels of Guia Oleo
(PS - I know that Alexa stats are not entirely accurate, but they are actually a good indication of what is popular and what’s not)
